Meditation and Serenity Art Portfolio: Serenity Sisters Gallery

Welcome to my Serenity Sisters

It is my pleasure to introduce you to my family of Serenity Sisters. These are my contemporary versions of a non-religious icon. They speak to a universal pull we all have to be serene and peaceful.

I was led to create the first Serenity Sister when seeking serenity for myself after a divorce. Other sisters soon followed.

Before beginning a Serenity Sister, I ask Spirit to guide me. I then trust I will be shown how the Sister would like to manifest. Each Sister emerges with a look and a personality of her own. They reflect a rich diversity of mixed ethnic, multi cultural beauty.

Usually a Serenity Sister image is started by covering my canvas with torn newspaper. Besides being an act of recycling, this gives depth and texture. It is also symbolic of all the media noise demanding our attention each day.

The image is gradually developed using acrylic paints, oil crayons, art papers, and fabrics. Some layers become obliterated while others remain in the final composition. The faces are executed with a simplicity of line that conveys both strength and stillness. They are depicted with their eyes closed as they are listening to their still quiet voice within. My hope is that the Sisters will inspire you to invoke your own inner stillness and serenity. People from all walks of life have found the Sisters to be great companions on their journey inward.

“I have lived with Gloria’s work in my home for the last 15 years. Her art creates an environment of quiet serenity reminiscent of a temple.”
